We are currently seeking applications for a Clinical Fellow to work in the thymus transplantation team. This programme is one of only two in the world and undertakes Thymus Transplantation on patients from all over Europe and further afield (Including New Zealand, Australia, the Middle East, and North America).

Over the past 5 years there has been a marked expansion in thymic transplantation activity wordwide, and as a result the thymic transplant program has transitioned from treating patients on a research basis to clinical standard of care. This position will act as a transplant coordinator for these patients and will be involved in direct clinical care for these complex patients. The post holder will also have their own general immunology clinic and will help with the post bone marrow transplant long term follow up clinic.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

· Help to coordinate clinical care of patients undergoing thymus transplantation

· Help identify and consent potential thymus donors from cardiac surgery lists

· Help co-ordinate the collection and preparation of thymus tissue for transplantation

· Lead weekly thymic transplantation multi-disciplinary meetings

· Help liaise with international doctors and clinical teams looking after thymic transplant patients abroad

· Attend weekly ward rounds and relevant clinical meetings

· Participate in the care of other immunology inpatients on a reciprocal basis with other middle grade immunology staff

· Be involved with the long term follow up of thymus transplant patients

· Help with data collection and recording on thymus transplant patients

Academic/Professional qualification/Training

Essential criteria
  • Medical degree and MRPCH or equivalent
  • Previous experience of clinical research with publications in peer reviewed journals
  • General Medical Council Registration with a Licence to Practice
Desirable criteria
  • Completion of specialist Paediatric training (CCT / CESR)
  • Higher research degree (e.g. PhD, MD, MRes, MSc)

Experience/Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Experience of managing patients undergoing thymic transplantation
  • Minimum of ST6 Paediatric training experience (or equivalent) with significant experience of Paediatric Immunodeficiency in a teriary specialist treatment centre
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of basic immunology research, including hands on experience of flow cytometry

Skills/Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication skills, and evidence of effective spoken and written English
  • Ability to work within a team
  • Excellent organisational skills
